Qualifications

To participate in Take Stock in Children, a student must:

  • Have a financial need and be determined to succeed (read below)
  • Sign a contract promising to remain drug and crime free
  • Maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA
  • Meet with a mentor once per week for about an hour
  • Behave positively in and out of school
  • Participate in TSIC workshops and events

 

Twenty four percent of Florida's children are eligible for Take Stock in Children's program because their family income is at or below the federal poverty level (same guidelines used to detemine free/reduced lunch eligibility) . Students are selected by a panel comprised of educators, civic leaders, and business sponsors and must sign a contract agreeing to follow the guidelines of the program.
